What's the difference apart from price and volume?

I have read a couple of threads, but the difference in price is interesting. I will obviously want to keep it cool overnight on 240v and obviously use the leisure batt when not on hookup. Does one do a better job? I don't know.

Bottom one doesn't say it runs on gas.

I don't need gas. Maybe that's the difference. Would make sense.

  4. I guess this one is so expesive as it runs on gas as well.. If you are going to run on hookup and leisure battery do you need gas as well?
I was going to buy a halfords cool box that I can use with a leisure/hook up for £50 when I finally get the bus up and running??
I've not done a lot of research as I'm not ready to camp yet... Watching with interest :)

Edit: Posted at the same time as you.

Definitely. I have had 2 electric cool boxes and that's all they are 'cool' boxes. The gas one will be more like a proper fridge. I always chuck a couple of ice blocks in the cool box and freeze any cold drinks to help it stay cool.

So you reckon the combicool is best. Are there any contenders in this 'chest' style cooler?

    I use one of these.http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/waeco-3-way-cooling-45l-camping-fridge-p115652
We did have a couple of issues with it once when it was very hot weather and it struggled and once when we didn't have it level enough and it just packed up. No problems since and very cheap as its my brothers and I just look after it for him.

That top one is a good known make and a good price!

If it costs less than £300 or so or it runs on gas it will draw a lot of power on 12 volts.

    The league table :

Peltier/thermoelectric : cheap draw 4 amps 12 volts all the time.. Use a mains 240 to 12 volt power supply. Often described as a cooler drops temp by 20 C max.

Absorbtion : runs on gas or mains or 12v more thirsty on 12 volts than thermoelectric. A proper fridge. Like classic camper fridges.

Compressor fridge : Average drain 1 to 2 amps on 12 volts. Expensive . The only option that is efficient enough to run on solar or leisure battery for any time. My Euroengel compressor coolbox is also capable of being a freezer at -18C after a days running.
