Convex/Aspheric wing mirror glass?

  1. Looking good Nick, but your mirrors look a different shape to mine, more square than rectangle?

  2. Think it's just the angle of the photograph Omias - they are definitely the normal rectangle shape.

  3. Had first drive in the van this morning with the new convex mirrors and have to say it's amazing improvement. Very pleased with them and finally feel much safer driving with other traffic around.

    Nick...

  4. Huge thanks for posting back so quickly with this PeaSoup - I've just ordered some on the strength of it

  5. Fitted mine today and wow. I can see all the way down the side of the bus.

It just screws onto quarterlight with allen key that was provided with it. Three screws on back the mirror to adjust it. Easy.

    View from front.

  6. Same(ish) here kalli - I fitted mine today (the same ones as Juneau and PeaSoup ordered from ebay) and they are brilliant! I drove round countless roundabouts today in rush hour and didn't squash anyone! I EVEN managed to overtake (on the motorway, not a roundabout I hasten to add!) without getting a crick in my neck as well :D

Thanks guys, for all your suggestions :)

  8. Great thread guys. Might just help myself to a couple of these as well.

  9. Picking this thread up again as I have a convex mirror from eBay through in the mail.

I'm trying to just stick the new convex mirror on top of the new reproduction mirror I got from JK and I'm having some difficulty.

The sticky pads on the back aren't thick enough to make any contact with the current glass as the replacement is large and sits on the grey trim all the way around.

    The question is.....what to do?

    1) try to remove the grey trim and the glass and put the new mirror in (I think this would be tricky). Anyone know how best to do this?

    2) stick something onto the original mirror so that the new mirror can make contact. Issue with this is that the mirror edge will be visible - not a good look.

    3) send the glass back and get one from a different company which is smaller and fits well within the grey trim.

Any thoughts / suggestions / experience very welcome!

Me too. After I gently hit a cyclist overtaking me on the inside who I didnt see,
I bought a convex mirror glass on eBay.
After weighing up the options I regretfully smashed the old glass and glued the new one in with some flexible PU glue.

  12. What did you end up doing Sentry? I've just received my mirrors and I seem to have the same issue, the replacement glass is fractionally too big to fit inside the outer seal and therefore its impossible to make good contact with the existing glass. I'm thinking of just sending them back and trying another seller.

  13. OK, for the benefit of anyone reading this I'm sharing what I did when the new convex mirror glass appeared to be too big to just stick over the existing mirror glass. I found I could pull out the surrounding rubber seal from the mirror (these were the polished stainless ones from JK with the grey seals). I was then able to gently prise the mirror from the housing. The glass in mine appeared to be held in with four blobs of clear silicone sealant. One mirror just fell out fairly easily and the other one took some gentle persuasion and broke in two before coming out. I cleaned up as much of the old silicone as i could from inside the housing. I put the seals (gave them a spray with silicone lubricant first) around the new convex glass and put four balls of SUGRU (you could easily use silicon sealant again as well) on the top, bottom & side edges of the back of the mirror, then pushed the mirror and seal back into the housing. Hopefully the SUGRU made contact with the back of the housing and its all stuck OK. Although the seal goes some way to holding the mirror in the housing anyway.
