Converting a Pop-Top to a Tin-Top

  1. Hi fella, heard back from the guy about the roof! It's £550 to do the work without painting and that's without the roof cut as well.

    Bargain!!!

What do you mean "without the roof cut"?

I'd have a new'ish pop-top to sell so could work out almost even.

Thanks for your help... Really appreciate it.

  3. No worries, he said £550 to do the work but, you'd still have to buy the section of roof that needs to be welded in fella.

  4. i'm looking at doing the same thing with my viking camper van and have been looking all over the internet for the best option and thought i'd found one but then the bloke emailed me back two days later saying he'd stopped making roofs :s

anyone know of any scrap yards in yorkshire area that might have a canibalised bus for the roof part to weld into the hole by any chance?

  5. When I bought my splitty, it had a pop top which had been held down by wire straps where the buckle straps normally go and a piece of wood inside across the middle of the roof and screwed to the inside of the pop top..

The headlining (which was a DIY vinyl job but looked good) was then fitted from front to back, so inside it looked like a tintop, but outside looked like a pop top.

Roof was solid, no leaks, no cutting or welding.

May not be the best idea for some, but it worked and was a cost effective job!

  6. i had thought of doing that and just sealing the pop top but i must admit i made a slight miss calculation when i bought mine and its slightly too tall to fit in the garage with the massive viking top so another reason i want to take it off also it weighs a fecking ton!

  7. I decided to keep mine as is and hopefully next year buy a tin top that needs some work. Good luck guys.
