Have finally got hold of what I believe to be the correct mcbs and swapped them over....... does the wiring look right? Want to get as much of the work done and correct before getting a sparky to give it a good once over.
Lol..... thanks, but not just yet..... lots more to do, and it'll be physically checked by a local sparky before its fired up.
Make sure each terminal is screwed up tight, give each wire a tug to make sure it doesn't come out and you're good to go.
Drill the cable holes out slightly larger and fit some rubber grommets. I'd also go one cable size larger on the bit that loop the lives and neutrals together.
I have a big tub of Grommits that I have been using for the rest of the wiring through the van...... I didn't build the consumer unit to start with only swapped over the mcb's - but now you mention it yes..... sounds like a plan.
From a sparkys point of view and strictly speaking there is no "strain relief" on your incoming or outgoing cables as you have just drilled a hole to take the cable. If we are being PC then they should be fitted with a 20mm strain relief gland which would stop the strain being put to the terminals if pulled and instead onto the sheath. There only a quid or so from S FIX etc for a pack of 2. If im being honest there aint a lot of chance of it happening but a gland would stop if it it did .
You beat me to it! Plus it would mean you adhere to the IP ratings, ie IP4X for the top and IP2X for the bottom and sides.
as above IP glands also would use similar to these, and hoping earth goes to bodywork with a ring crimp. Where you based someone could look at it
I'm Stourbridge way - there is a good solid earth into a ring crimp which will indeed be secured to the bodywork..... just waiting for the woodwork to turn up so I can check the routing of everything before I settle on locations. @matty many thanks for the offer but the time, effort and postage costs are a step to far as a favour for something so cheap...... I'll pick some up from screwfix it's literally 2 mins from here.
