  1. that's the one, now san interior, half on the tip half in the garage for a template. This is the lump i'm on about which is now running :) Its a 1700 from a 411/412. Came without the FI set-up. Stripped it and all was good, looks like a real low mileage engine. Barrels etc were like new. Put new bearings in, some new seals and a lick of Porsche yellow :) When I finally turned the dizzy round the right way it fired right up

  2. Mmmmm, I have enough bits lying around including 'W' code block and original B's & P's to make one of those up! Is it standard spec and WTF are you doing with one of those poxy twin choke carbs on it!!?? I'd be interested to know what it pulls like ....

  3. haven't road tested it yet...

The engine is standard spec, no changes other than no FI. The twin barrel carb is all I have lying around at the moment. I've fitted the weber 32/36 as opposed to the solex carb i've got. When I ran my (old) engine on this carb it worked just fine, no issues aside from having to warm things up in winter time - not much of an issue as i don't use the van much in winter.

I would guess it will pull just fine - its 10hp up on my other engine which pulls like a train. I might swap this over to the dells but thats jetted for the 1800, not sure i'd need to retune/rejet to run on a 1700

Will let you know how it goes
    :)

  4. I have the same problem with an engine and it turned out to be a sticky valve due to not being run for a while (8 years) just a thought

  5. actually Malc the issue is that last time I installed it the wrong way around, this time I installed the right way around for it being the wrong way around. If I had installed it the right way around for being the right way around in the first place it would've been ok.

As it turned out the wrong way was actually the right way. So here we are
    :)
