Good evening all , just putting new UJ boots on drive shaft but noticed that in the manual it says not to bother putting back the concave washer back on the shaft , is this right ? .I have a 1973 model does this include mine ? also if i do have to put back the washer does the inward concave side face the uj or the shaft . thanks .

  2. Leave them off. They're a pain, and VW deleted them. Having them not there won't cause problems.

What was the purpose of them anyway ?

  4. I assume they're to hold the CV joint firmly on the shaft (long time since I did mine), but as the joint shouldn't move up and down anyway, they're a bit redundant (and a real pain to fit).

You must of been one of the lucky ones that got decent uj boots , mine lasted one year bloody useless Meyle i think they were . Not the choicest of jobs either ...very messy . I bit the bullet and bought those originals that vw heritage found in a big batch find . the quality between them and the repro is very evident .

  6. Forget where I got mine (about eight years ago). They've lasted!
