Does anybody use electronic ignition in the type 4 2.0l motor? Which is the best one to get disregarding cost? Any tips, experiences about using these systems?
Be very careful with Accuspark distributors, I fitted one and a valve seat fell out and broke my piston!
It doesn't, it was a joke, obviously not a good one, based on the fact that the day after I put a new distributor in my intake valve decided to break.
I used a pertronix, the magnetic ring fell apart on installation, they wouldn't replace it. I bought a replacement ring, the unit failed within minutes. They wouldn't refund or replace. I have been using accuspark for 3 years, I'm using 3 of these units right now in 1800 and 1700 type 4 applications and they have all been fine. I'm just about to buy an SVDA distributor from them and will report back once used. I'll be fitting this to an 2.0 FI type 4 They don't make the engine run any better or any different than points, its just easier as its plug and play with no servicing or adjustment required. Always worth carrying a spare as some report fragility and if I'd been away when my pertonix failed I'd have been stuck
When I asked this question about 6 months ago the answer was that the 123 was the way to go. http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/opinions-on-the-best.22030/
I bought the complete Accuspark kit for my Type 4 2l. They were doing a special deal on SVDA with fitted electronic ignition, coil, leads etc. Simple upgrade and it works well.
