Hoping my leak down test kit arrives this week to test such things as mentioned above. I've used the camper a reasonable amount but with C19, not as much as I'd want. Engine is due out this winter to locate an oil leak and magic measuring stick will be used to see what else we can find
I had a crate engine from GEX which is widely known as a disreputable company. I drove the engine for about 50k miles and rebuilt it just because. It always ran well but had 90 ish compression in #1 cylinder. When I rebuilt it, I removed the original head gaskets as per the bulletin. Compression on #1 cylinder ended up even lower maybe high 80’s, the others were fine. I suspected a bad seal at the head. It could be the head seal or slightly different CR. I would run it too, get to know it’s quirks and enjoy it. I am building another engine but tore down the GEX and found a slightly bent crank which seems to have always been that way. I was surprised it ran as well as it did.
Update after an afternoon of playing Following @davidoft suggestion, my wife and I had a week of thrashing, the camper that is! So 500 odd miles later I and @mcswiggs tested my compression and undertook a leak test and I'm happy to say the results are much better The results today are No 1 = 160 No 2 = 158 No 3 = 147 No 4= 160 The leak down test had all the cylinders in the green. Fair to say I'm a happy boy. Plan now is to take the engine out and rectify my oil leak.
