  1. And you've undone 4 more bolts than they would have... anyway lunch over back to work from home

Put those 4 head nuts back on and torque down to the correct figure.

what were the readings for these 2 cylinders? and is this the side where one rocker arm seemed to have less movement than the others?

Show us the other end of the followers, the end that rides on the camshaft.
I believe the not moving much side had the highest compression.

  10. Both side had little movement on the side near the rear of the van

which if valves aren't letting the compression out would make sense, im currently leaning towards valve adjustment

Cams knackered. look at the followers

  17. The 2 with the lowest compression have no marking?

Had you mentioned that previously? I must have missed it.
I'm going for knackered cam and the low readers having a bit of "ring fused into the pistons" trouble due to overheating due to lack of power and muchos foot on pedal until it conked out.

And the timing, correct but too advanced for the combination of everything else going wrong. I made that last bit up

If you buy another set of new followers the same thing will happen. You need a new cam and a set of followers from the same manufacturer

I was just about to query that top follower, the pattern doesn't look typical of type 4 wear
