Clutch Cable

  1. So my clutch cable has gone, luckily whilst I was putting her away in the garage.

Any tips on replacing it, especially getting the clevis pin out and feeding the cable back through?

  2. Easy enough. The pin’s no prob, then just feed it through the conduit, well greased. Worth poking the 40-year old grease out with a bit of rag on a stick beforehand. Worth checking whether all the rubber boots on the conduit are still there.

  3. With the pin, on first glance there is not much space, do you remove the pedal lever assembly to give more space? Also where are the boots, suspect I don’t have them?

  4. I changed mine in a Greek beach car park - no dramas

  5. Pin's no prob. You'll see how it goes. It's a kind of swivelly clip thing (2A). Boots are 4a (and 5) in pic. 4a is a kind of rubber pepper pot thing. Recall JK sell them.

Not had to change mine once in over the 25 years of ownership.
Throttle cable once on the Bay. Quite interesting trying to drive it on tick over.
I had to change an accelerator cable on my 1500s Notchback once driving back from Mombasa to Nairobi. Luckily it was daylight!!

When mine broke I managed to replace it without using any tools - I used a key to flip the thingy off at the front and I didn't really get it tight enough as I didn't have anything to stop the cable spinning as I tightened the wing nut, but it's totally doable in the middle of nowhere as long as you have a spare. Luckily I didn't have a front under tin to remove or I'd have been stumped.
