Clutch advice please

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by 62 deluxe, Sep 20, 2020.

  1. Had an issue with too much clutch free play. Have had the odd slip under load in wet weather on hills so decided to get the engine out. Looks like my flywheel oil seal has gone. Obviously I’m going to have to replace the disc due to contamination, but do you think the pressure plate is ok? No scoring on it or flywheel but some blueing. Advice gratefully received.

I would replace the lot. A complete kit is cheap enough these days.

The seal looks okay, was the O-ring missing from the flywheel?

I’d also replace the complete clutch, and have the flywheel resurfaced too, there’s plenty of heat stress marks on it. And get it machined by someone that knows what they are doing, whatever is taken off the friction face must also be taken off the pressure plate mounting face.

  4. Think I’ll take the engine down to Harry Harpics, paul will be able to sort that out. Cheers

  5. Change it all and possibly the flywheel it looks like you have some cracks forming. Flywheel cracking.jpg

  6. Doesn't look like any oil contamination but agree with previous renew all parts the blueing indicates a lot of heat built up a new cable and check all mounting points and adjustments wouldnt go amis
