Clutch adjustment....

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Sentry1, Sep 15, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

So, I'm embarking on my first little bit of maintenance. The gears are tough while moving and dead easy stationary so clearly I need to tighten the clutch cable (I've got way more than an inch of play on the pedal).

The question is....looking at these photos I think it's at the end of the thread for the wingnut. That's probably why someone has shoved a bolt in there to try to tighten thing up a bit.

Without replies like- "just shove another bolt in there!" - what are your thoughts? New cable required? Can I tighten things by adjusting something at the pedal end?

    Any help appreciated.

    Here's the wingnut end:

Then a little further is the tube the cable goes into:

    Here's that a little closer:

And here's the rest as it travels forward:

    Thoughts?

    Washers is the usual fix.
When was that fuel filter last changed?

  4. Hi @Baysearcher. No Idea when the fuel filter was last changed. Bought the thing on Saturday :)

  5. When was that fuel filter last changed?

I'd take note of this. Change the filter they're only pennies to buy and a doddle to change.

I've got a couple of bolts and a washer or two on my clutch cable. Buy a new cable and keep it in the van but I'm sure yours will be fine for another 10000 miles.

Check all your fuel lines then mate and I'd replace them all for peace of mind. Use proper fuel line clips at each joint.
A good few went up in smoke this season.

  7. Will do - do you mean these instead of the ones that are on there now?

Those ones are just expensive jubilee clips., not proper fuel line clips.
Use a normal motor factors (even Halfords sell them) to avoid scene tax.

  9. Think that even when you buy a new clutch cable it will need a washer or two as spacers.
