Clunk when pulling off

  1. Hi all. Had this for a while now but could do with getting it sorted.
When pulling off, there is a clunk from under the van.
New clutch fitted a couple of thousand miles ago, manual, 1700 type 4 engine.
    Anything obvious worth checking?
    Many thanks.

  2. Gearbox and engine mounts in poor condition?

  3. Yep - check all engine and gearbox mounting especially check front gearbox mounting bolts are tight.

  4. Have you got a towbar? It could be the exhaust catching it.
Mine does occasionally when loaded or over bumpy ground.

  5. Silver

    Silver Needs points/will pay!

At the start...or right at the end?

  6. Mine did the same, was the gearbox mount (just after a 'professional' had fitted a replacement gearbox for us!)

  7. Does it always do it? Just wonderin' if it's the rear drum brakes (handbrake) breaking free after being slightly seized on.

  8. I sometimes hear a clunk when pulling off, it's usually my elbow banging the side

  9. The clunk is right at the end, almost after you've got the biting point just as you are pulling off.#
#Funny enough, someone did change the 'box just after I had it, so will check all the gearbox bolts/fixings look ok/tight.
No towbar, it's defo like a solid sound rather than something just catcking.
    Cheers peeps.

  10. Definitely sounds like you're banging your elbow on something!

    :)

  11. Check all your engine and gearbox mounts are nice and tight. Could be front mounts on the box have come loose or even missing
    :)

Sorry! I got the wrong end of the stick completely, when you said "Clunk, when pulling off"

  13. There's always one!
    Self portrait Mr V?:p

  14. CV Joints? Get underneath it and waggle both driveshafts inboard and outboard, then see afterwards if it goes away for a while only to come back again.
