cleaning muck off the gearbox

  1. Got the gearbox out and its covers in 10 years of oil and muck, what's the best way of getting it all off?
     
  2. Parrafin and a stiff brush
     
  3. I used thinners/white spirits

    put the box on the bench sprayed thinners over it and used a toothbrush and small scrapper for the hard to move areas, came up a treat.. 8)

    take i down the jet wash at the local petrol station or strap it to the bonnet and go through the car wash :)
     
  7. i did think about the pressure washing bit, my mates got a hot steam pressure cleaner in his work shop, but dont want to get crap all in the car and i cant take it in the pick up cos......
     
  8. soft wire brush in the end of a drill

  18. if you are doing it at home get a large plastic tray a stiff brush and a litre of petrol. usual health and safety guff...
    petrol is a great degreaser just make sure you rinse off the box properly
     
  19. suggest the wife cleans it?
     
  20. I know I'll whack it in the dishwasher.
