i was chatting to my boss last night and he's into classic commercials , he asked me how i felt about the new rules that the government are thinking of bringing in re classic vehicle's . i had no idea what he was on about , so he explained they are thinking of bringing in a rule that says we can only use our classics on the road for 6 days a year , then trailer them the rest of the year . Do you know anyhing about this or is it just classic commercials , i have trawled the net to no avail ???
i heard last weekend that vehicles prior to 1980 will become 'historic', again nothing on the net to support this
sounds like another bs story doing the rounds if a vehicle is taxed tested and insured you can drive it 365 days a year if you like. and how would they know what days you were driving it? do you have to write a letter to the dvla and ask them can i please drive my vehicle on 1 jan 2012 and get a 1 day tax disk?
There are loads of these stories going around from people "who know". Most of them dont, so I wont be taking any notice until I hear its official.
I agree, its contrary to your "if a vehicle is taxed tested and insured you can drive it 365 days a year" comment though. If the government decide our vehicles WILL be off the road, they will be.
I didnt say they were mate, just that if they wanted to, the fact they were MOTd and taxed wouldnt make a blind bit of difference.
i brought this up in the last make the historic road tax rolling again topic nice to see people read my posts http://www.the-ace.org.uk/petition-letter-against-adoption-of-fiva-definition-of-historic-vehicle.html
sounds like a another bs story to try n wind folks up there so much money tied up in classic cars not just vw s but think of all shows ,burger vans bouncy castle s etc etc that would lose out plus the suppliers of parts and re sellers small specialist garages plus the fact it would de value all these cars they could nt do it
Do you think they'd care about the guy who hires out bouncy castles or the value of the vehicles affected? They wouldn't give a xxxx
The bouncy castle bloke won't pay any and only commercial vehicles are subject to VAT. Can't see them being worried.
I have read some blurb on European directives on historic vehicles that to relate to limitations on use and on what modifications can or cant be made if the vehicle is to remain historic. I got quite wound up but it occured to me that if there was still an option to reclassify then I would just bite the bullet and pay the road tax. Of interest is that the definition related to a vehicle 30 years or older but qualified that modifications would have to be in keeping with those which would have been contemporary or period mods! Dont have time to do a proper google on it but heres a start. I suspect there is some truth in this. http://www.the-ace.org.uk/fiva-define-historic-vehicle.html
