  1. Just managed to secure a new Clarke spot welder on Fleebay. Anyone have some cheap arms kicking around they may want to sell? Not paying the silly prices for new!

And silly prices they are aren't they?
You need to be more specific, do you mean the thick ones that attach to the welder, or the thinner ones that do the welding?
Long, short, "round the corner"? I've got them all but they're mine, all mine I tell you!!!!
From experience the best combo is one long and one short...
So if you can get just one long one and chop say 40mm off to make a short one - rock and roll.
You also need the wedges to jam them into the thick ones.

  3. Steve, I know nothing about them. I just happened to stick a bid on goofbid and won the item. It was over £550 BIN or bids starting at £300. I paid £300 for it. Well pleased. Even MM are charging £540 for them inc the vat.

What other sizes would I need? I assume it'll just have the standard ones with it.

The guy I got mine from wanted £50 for it because he couldn't make it work properly. That's with a trolley, the timer and all the rods. He'd welded a mini sill on, painted and everything but when he stuck his infra red heater on to bake the paint the welds popped - ping, ping, ping and he got the hump with it, since when it had sat under a sheet in the way. I said I'd try it. When I'd tried it and said I also couldn't get it to do very strong welds he gave it to me so I fiddled more, upped the pressure and bingo. Read and weep. ;)

The timer is essential (IMO) as it allows you to keep the pressure on for a second while the weld cools from red hot. But I might be imagining this helps.

  6. Haha, you spawny sod!

If you have any spare arms there you may want to sell please let me know or even if you have any advice I'm all ears.

    Thanks again

Wait and see what you get? You might find you can do with what it comes with. I couldn't believe the price of the arms when I happened to look a while back. Daylight robbery!

  8. yeah, makes sense I suppose. Cheers

  9. we have one and i think the dial on the back / timer allows you to weld tin stuff on low numbers the up to 2x 2mm on highest numbers
we regulary weld two bits of 2mm stainless together and its a clarke one , i did weld my bugs heater channel closing plate in with it and i found it has to be clean steel with a good contact . The copper arms will glow red .....

  10. Cheers dude.

  11. Sorry to dredge up an old post of mine. I am now looking for either a second hand (third hand!!!) arms to fit my clarke spot welder. Anyone have a set even if its to loan and return. Ideally I'd like to make a set. There are companies selling copper rods of varying thickness on ebay but I don't know if it's special stuff or straight annealed copper. Anyone know?
