Citroen idle control kaput!

  1. Hi again
A few weeks ago I asked about the problems I was having with the Picasso (2002petrol-1600sx) and it was suggested that it was my idle control valve that was playing up.... I seemed to settle again and I promptly forgot about it...... ( to busy messing with the led lighting in the van).... Until today. It was playing up a little on the way in to work this morning and then when I tried to start it to come home it just won't fire up - plenty of life in the bayberry but it just won't spark ... So I thought I'd bump it just to get it home.... But it just wouldn't start ....... Would the idle control valve cause this ? I'm guessing it's totally kaput now ... (oscar) I know I should of sorted a few weeks back. Any advice great fully received.

  2. Not sure why it won't fire. But I would whip the control valve out and give it a once over and a clean up just to see if it makes a difference. Should only take a few minutes. Is it getting fuel and spark?

  3. Think so ...but not sure if the valve would stop the flow of fuel

  4. I think the valve controls the air flow through the idle circuit. This is just a guess and I don't know if it's possible but it may have failed closed, so no air? Does it smell flooded?
If it was me I'd check the idle valve and fuel flow if It still won't start then I'm a bit stuck. :)
If you have breakdown cover I'd call them out for a free diagnoses. Sorry not sure what else to suggest.

  5. Cheers Oscar
I've left it in the carpark ... I'll have a look tomorrow ... Hopefully be a bit dryer then.

  6. Spent all morning running around getting carb cleaner to clean idle control unit set of spark plugs etc. .... Took tools down to try and get it running..... Not a sausage..... Called out aa ... Thought at least they would get me home.... Guy turned up had a look a listen .. Then rolled under car gave it a few sharp bangs ... Jumped in and started it...... Sticking fuel pump is the culprit .. At least we know what's wrong now .. Hey ho

  7. So my advice worked then. ;)
