Cigarette lighter fuse in a 1979 bay

  1. ok... where is the fuse for the cigarette lighter in a 1979 bay? Mine went pop at the weekend and every fuse box diagram I've looked at doesn't mention it- closest I have got is this:

location of fuses for 1978/9 bay, read left to right, 1-12...
1....tail light Left, side marker light left
2....tail light right, side marker light, right, front marker lights, left and right, parking lights, licence
    plate light (rear)
    3....low beam, left
    4....low beam, right
5....high beam, left, and hi beam indicator light
    6....high beam right
    7....accessory
8....hazard flashers, interior lights front and rear
9....buzzer alarm, switch current for aux heater
10..wipers, switch current for rear de-mister
11..turning signals, fuel guage, warning lights for oil press.,alternator/genny
12..brake lights, horn, warning lights for brakes

Is this right? Number 7 (accessory), is that the radio?

I can't see anything else under the dash.
    Cheers!

  2. I would check every fuse as sometimes these things are just wired into the closest positive wire someone could find, if all your fuses are still good then you will need to trace the wire from the back of the socket as there maybe an inline fuse fitted!

I'm unsure if your cig lighter point is original or not my above opinion is based on how much fiddling previous owners have done to the wiring in my bus :D

    Good luck

  3. Cheers I'll do that, might be a bigger job than I hoped!

  4. I don't think they were fitted as standard, so was probably added by a PO.
I used an inline fuse as Robo described, fed from the main feed to the front fusebox.

You'll probably need to trace the wire from the center terminal of the cig lighter back, and hopefully you'll find an inline fuse holder en route.

  5. Fag lighters weren't standard. You have to trace the wire back.

  6. Give up smoking, it will probably be easier:D

  7. Oddly, I think Brazilian Bays were fitted with a standard lighter above the ashtray. Obviously, Brazilians like their fags...

  8. I was using a hair dryer through it

  9. That's why your fuse went ;). Ignore your hair and have a fag instead...

  10. Update! I tracked the wiring as far as I possibly could from the back of the socket and there was no fuse anywhere to be seen. I ended up having to call a mobile auto electrician out who finally tracked down a fuse next to the leisure battery (which was fitted recently and is under one of the seats....). So I assume this means that there wasn't a fuse anywhere until that got fitted! Health and safety! It was only a 10 amp fuse which is why it popped.

Never would have worked that out myself.

  11. Nice one celebrate with a cigarette:thumbsup:

  12. Mine popped shortly after installation. After 10 mins with the electrician we discovered a penny stuffed in by one of the kids.
