I had looked at these.....think I was told that the cable could be extended with....
    ...... wire !
Think Zed ( remember him?) fitted a system used in 2CV racing, which I understand is more expensive but not that expensive.
Can't remember if it was here or on "the dark side").

Wire will work. If its based on a thermistor it really doesnt matter what you do to extend the wire. (If the sensor reads a few hundred ohms or a few thousand ohms and changes as you hold the sensor its a thermistor)

If its a thermocouple (sort of a short circuit) then you need to make the extension symmetrical .. use same metals both sides.. like using copper wire ...

CHT gauges are definitely worth having but drive around for a bit with it fitted before scaring yourself on a long trip.

Like with mine they are mounted on a temperature sensor boss on Brazilian dual port heads not round the spark plug like that kit.

So I see 110-145 C normally and if I really thrash it I see 150 C. Which is lower than spark plugs would read.

I have two fitted one left and one right side, as some faults show as big temperature differences like when rocker arms unbolt or you get a manifold air leak one side.
Mine are based on homebrew kit with Type K thermocouples so the 1 metre long sensor wires go to a computer in the engine bay which then sends data to the dash displays.

  3. 150 sounds bit low, your calculations might be off.

As i clearly stated. My sensors are mounted in a hole intended for a Brazilian FI setup, on 2010 vintage VW branded Autolinea manufactured heads, not the classic ring around the spark plug which I found a faff on a T1 head because there is a fairly narrow space round the plug for the sensor tag to bend up.
The hole in question is right at one end of the head not beside the plug.
The sensors are telling the truth about the temperature where they are fitted.
My point is that like all VW temperature gauges its a good idea to learn what is normal before deciding what constitutes a panic.

  5. You should stick a thermistor in that hole (its original purpose ;))

  6. Its impressive that their gauge will go up to 1300C, shame the heads would have melted long before that point :D

  7. My thoughts about being a faff. Tbh when engine was rebuilt it was tapped for oil cooler so may try looking into that

The oil cooler keeps the whole engine cooler but the heads are mostly aircooled, so you can fry the heads with a reasonable oil temperature still showing on the gauge. New heads are a faff too.

  10. I have that Mainline one fitted in my T25 and it worked great for about 18 months. I think I damaged it when I dropped the engine down for a bit of work. The displays are huge though so don’t look great
