    What carb are you running?

What engine and carburetor do you have? A pic of your engine bay would be helpful as well.

Unfortunately the fashion is to remove chokes from aftermarket bay twin carbs. I wish my carbs had them.
You can probably acquire the missing parts, then you have the problem of controlling them manually with a cable because they are not electric like the original Solex carbs.

If it's hard to start from cold it can be a number of things.
Small idle jets (not wrong, just small)
    Accelerator pump jets not working.
    Technique.
    Any mix of the above.

    Technique
Pump the pedal calmly 2 or 3 times and again as you turn the key. Without revving too much keep it going with more gentle pumps, or a little constant pedal will do as it warms up. Within 20-30 seconds there shoul be enough heat in the heads to idle albeit slowly. At that point either set off or keep the revs up to warmed up speed. If it's misfiring at any point increase the revs until it's smooth, then letboff again.

All the above is basically doing what chokes would do - adding fuel and revs. Choke would also limit the air but we can't do that.

Starting from hot is completely different. Turn key open throttle until it starts, the name of the game now is to LIMIT the fuel and let the air in.

  7. He’s only right you know. If not started for a while you will need to prime a little by turning over for a few seconds off the pedal. I use a few squirts on thePedal before actually turning the starter and off ye go! It’s a faff till you get used then it’s second nature.

think mine had chokes when I got em but I took advice to remove them..... hey ho!,

As zedders says, reinstating chokes on dells isn't straightforward unfortunately. Use the above method of cold starting and see how you get on. If it really struggles to start then it may need attention, but it's usually just getting the nack..

  9. ^ as above. Pump the pedal a couple of times snd crank the engine to get some fuel in the system - the carbs may have drained down. It’ll fire up eventually. If you’ve recently run the engine, just one pump on the pedal should be enough.

Your Dells may actually have chokes, but you’d need to install two long cables to the front to operate them.
