morning , I have been setting up my choke and I have to rotate the plate to set my choke closed but the terminal spade on the front always ends up on both sides right in the way of the linkage. ? Can the plates be taken off and turned around somehow so the connection is not in the way ?
The screwdriver is pointing at the problem the throttle linkage bar rubs against the spade terminals same both sides
You could always run two wires from the coil and eliminate the piggyback spade fitting, and bend the male spade up so that the wire exits perpendicular to the face?
The chokes are handed, have you got them on the correct carbs? the terminals should be pointing downwards. And that wiring is terrible do it properly, the terminals should have insulated sleeves at least.
I had the carbs recently refurbished so I’m hoping they have been put back on the right way ! How can I find out if they are ? I will tidy up the wiring
I thought they could be incorrectly fitted too, can’t remember which way round they go without seeing them, but they look wrong
The choke flaps are spring loaded to rotate into the open position. The heater units make them close when cold so when heated up they relax and let the flap open. You should be able to test if they’re doing this without the linkages on and engine running. If they get hot but the flap doesn’t open they’re probably wrong way round. I suspect you can also tell from the serial number. The terminal should point down as Bigherb says.
I just looked and they are on correctly left & right side . but the right plate has the adjusting mark underneath rather than the top. I have tested them and they warm up and open the choke . I guess I need to undo the plate and swivel it around so the adjusting mark is on the top and the wire connector should be out of the way then ?
I just found a old photo before they were refurbished and they are in upside down 1st pic is after refurb 2 nd before
I think undo the 3 screws and rotate them until the butterfly starts to open, but it’s warm weather so they may no fully close anywho
They will only work properly when the peg from the choke is hooked into the bimetallic spring. As a result if you assemble the carburettors correctly they will sort themselves out. As you loosen the screws amd rotate the capsule carefully you should be able to open and close the choke before settling for the marks being more or less lined up between the capsule and the carb body. At this point the carb should have choke flap just closed when its all cold.
