Chocolate lock barrels

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by locost38, Jun 6, 2020.

  1. Has anyone else experience cab door lock barrels that break really easily. I was given a set of aftermarket handles and I have managed to break both barrels trying to unlock the door. 1st time I did it I put it down to over exuberance but twice it just unlucky and I really wasnt trying very hard?

  2. In what way did they break?

  3. The far end of the barrel snapped off at the far lock leaf

A clue to the problem is “I was given a set of aftermarket handles”.

If you are lucky, the repro handles use the same style barrels as the originals so you can fit the barrels from old locks to new handles.
I think JK Preservation parts may work like this except the chrome after 2 years looks like original after 45 years..

I may be wrong, I have a pair I got off eBay and I think it was one bad OG one and one JK PP one, and all my locks use one key now. The item description was 50% correct but I needed a handle as I could unlock the drivers door with a thumb nail where the lock biscuits had so scored the inside of the handle there were little grooves going round 45 degrees..

  6. Yes I have ordered another JK one just for the the barrel. I will move the tumblers from the other one so i have the same key for both handles. Got loads of handles now with no barrels!

  7. Has the little lock actuator pin thing on the end of the barrel snapped off?

  8. No it’s the barrel that snapped at the last tumbler
