chassis measurements at your rear?

  1. Hi all my 79 panel van conversion came to me with hardly any chassis left in the engine bay I have replaced both sides with schofield repair parts these come with engine cross member holes, so I cut off the side of the chassis leaving the engine cross member mounting holes in place, bolted the outer section of the chassis repair to the existing holes in the chassis, welded this on, then cut off the inner part and welded the final part on so in theory nothing should be in the wrong place, repeated this both sides, whist checking with the engine cross member fitting, this all fits good but the rear inner valance won't fit in between the new chassis sections seems strange? also inner valance seems to be too far out on the off side? has anyone had this problem before I take the cutting disc back to my van, I can make it fit but would have thought it should have been closer to a perfect alignment.
Any way if you understand that lot your doing well, can some one give me a measurement between the rear chassis legs just inside the rear valance? so I have something to compare it to.
    Thanks.

  3. I think you can get the picture, I have got it to fit but not the way I wanted that's why, I need a measurement to refer to!

Yes but the way it doesn't fit is important, it won't just pop in , I'm changing a rear end at the minute so can help with measurements but not until the morning, I have a pretty much rust free van so nothing will have moved much if any, but the rear valance hasn't just popped in

  5. Thanks, well it's too long or the chassis is to tight, I know the nearside moved a little when I got carried away welding, it was going so well I thought it was a shame to stop and the metal warped 1/4 of an inch I managed to jack it back out and then fitted the engine bar to make sure the spacing was correct this fitted ok so am a little confused? But I will get there in the end.
