Charging your battery whilst connected

  1. Cool and that's almost exactly what I've got so far, just was unsure of the validity of leaving it connected to the starter, I guess I was more concerned about damaging the ctek during the starting phase.

Here's what I have so far

  2. Ive started mine with the ctek on and connected no end of times, and its been on whilst the bus is idling on the drive. No issues so far!

Yep Gaz my consumer unit is in nearly the same position, although I've sunken it through the bed base upright & screwed it to the fridge cabinet behind to give a bit more room under the bed & hide the wiring in the dust collecting void between the two.
Ours is connected to the leisure & as the guys have said above it charges both batteries via a 2 way VSR when we're hooked up.

I've changed the breakers in this box now to double pole as it was supplied with only single pole but was the most compact I could find

And this is where the conduit carrying the wiring back to the batteries goes. The grometted hole is just under the wardrobe cabinet (the stained wood) and just to the left of the back of the fridge box (the plain ply) through the firewall inside the bus....& just to the left of the wheel well in the engine bay.

& there's the ctek mounted on ply & bolted through the wheel well..10 amp for the win if the budget stretches.

If all the happy campers heat their motorhomes with mains it can blow the Big Fuse.
Was on a Camping and Caravanning site where we had lots of clothes and blankets . Enough motorhomes thought 1 degrees C was a bit cold, powered up their heaters at 0200 ..
Electricity was restored by 1300 the same cold morning..

  7. Can I slow charge my main battery, via spade terminals on the battery clamps?
    Old 4 amp charger
I need to leave the battery connected when occasionally charging it, so do I need to disconnect all the alternator cables?

Disconnect the big wire from battery positive end going to top of alternator?
Disconnect smaller blue wire from top of alternator?
Disconnect the big earth near battery negative that goes to the alternator base ?

Currently I don't have a ctek and am seeking a solution that doesn't cost, but won't damage current equipment like alternator.

    Thanks

To save damaging your batteries, you need a charger that goes into float/maintenance charge once the battery is "fully" charged.

  9. I was only planning to run it for a few hours, I just want to stop the main battery going completely flat ever
