  1. Right. Got 3 sat here. 1 has a dead diode pack but unsure which. Unfortunately when i took it off the bus i dodnt mark it up. Can meet tonight ok. Can bring all three if you want and sort out later! Let me know.

  2. Think i know which is which now. Looks like ones been wet as armature looks a bit rusty. Worst case is swapping diode pack on the one that i took off my bus. You ok for voltage regulator. Should have a spare one.

  3. Yep got a new volt reg and another on order from local auto elec place cheap as chips just in case.

  4. Good luck chaps!

  5. Right then, I have a working charging circuit, woohoo.

I made a hybrid alternator out of my old and new one.

The front of the new one which has new slip rings in (and the pulley so I went this way first), the back of the old alt with original diodes etc. The brush pack was the old one but with the new brushes i soldered in last night after breaking the new brushes pack plastic.

So I plugged it all in for a test and it works fine. Old reg turns the light off straight away but I don't get as much voltage out of it, the new reg needs a blip of the throttle to get the light to go out but once out stays out, and I get more voltage out of it so I think I will stick with the new one. Might tweak the idle up a bit as it seems low although I think I might have a brake servo leak as when I pump the brake it affects the idle.

Meh either way it's working again and the new alternator I bought was probably not working when it arrived.

Yes I should have sent it back but I needed to get the bus back on the road asap for this weekend and for getting poptopkitchen gas checked.

Now I just need to put it all back together properly!!

  11. Just had new alternator fitted by herbie hospital everything fine then a few days later coming home from a day out smoke started behined dashpod...manged together home .....was OK checked wireing a day later and wire casing all melted and when I touched it to see why it sparked it was all black with black marks.on tinware all wireing from alternator to starter fried big time....and wireing disintegrating. In my hands?????...

  12. If its a type 4 the stud the live connects to in the alternator is to long, the rubber boot will war through and .............

  13. What can I do is it big job? Is it possible to leave off rubbbber cap and maybe fit new wire maybe then take it back to herbie hospital ....yes it's a type 4

  14. You will need new alternator loom, you could leave the alternator disconnected with a type 4, remove fan belt and wiring loom from it, dont use radio etc and the battery should last a while if fully charged if you dont use lights.

The rubber boot is there to protect it but wasnt designed for a stud that is too long forcing it against the alternator tinware
