My early has no firewall and no breathers or charcoal stuff in the intakes and engine bay roof. It has one big breather that spills petrol onto the road instead.

What you describe is how they are.

    Different to a late then.
Mine are firmly fixed between the rubber bits.

  3. The one by the side of the spare wheel well is easy to get to if you take the left hand rear light cluster out first

  4. I did my 1800cc type 4 engine with the engine in, just took the firewall out.

  5. Well, done 5 out of the 9. Everything rear of the firewall. Gonna do those another day when I can jack the rear up to undo all the screws.

  6. well done for the pictures. mine were the same and thats why the engine bay was full of petrol fumes. your pics will hopefully remind folks to change theirs.

    i replaced mine with 5.6mm CODAN R9

  7. Just changed all the fuel lines with bio diesel ones, cost a few pennies but should be worth it!

  8. Just to check, I don't need to use fuel clamps on the breather hoses do I?

  9. No.

Also just to check.... what did everyone replace their breather hoses with? Mine are currently of the braided type (complete with mould where they are a bit aged). I have some 5.6mm fuel hose which is fractionally too big for the breather fittings, and some 3.5mm braided vacuum hose which is too small. Can't seem to find anything else though on VWH, C&C or JK websites. Am I being thick, or what? Do I clamp the too big, or stretch the too small, or is there something that actually fits please.

  11. 7mm breather hose.
    Still braided.
