Changing from complicated US spec heat exchanger/exhaust set up to simpler earlier setup?

  1. With my complicated US spec heat exchanger/cat/exhaust set up approaching the end of it's life I'm planning on changing my van to use the less complicated (earlier) set up.

e.g. moving from the middle set up (heat exchanger labelled 11) to the top set up (HE labelled 12) in the following picture:

Other than the heat exchangers (which I have already sourced - thanks Stevebay!), can anyone tell me what other parts will need changing?

e.g. do I need different heat risers (bit between HE and control flaps), electric heating fan riser pipes, tinwear, mounting brackets etc.

From the picture above it looks like I probably need to change the heat risers and the mounting brackets, however I have no idea about tinwear or other bits.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Following on from this, if anyone has any of the bits that I'd need to change my set up going spare, please could you let me know which bits and prices etc.

    Thanks.

  2. They're all numbered on the microfiche so a different number indicates a different part required. The bolting up is quite straight forward. Most of the parts can be sourced new from Heritage

  3. Nick, don't chuck out the old stuff, I may be able to salvage some bits for my (equally complicated) US spec system. :)

  4. I had a similar problem and it works out a lot cheaper and easier to have a new stainless exhaust.

  5. Hi, I just had Grant at Beetlelink convert my exhaust system from US spec following replacing the US injection system with a weber carb. The only part i'm struggling with is the N/S under tin for which I can't find a compatable part, the standard under tin which I ordered from MegaBug only fixes at three points and at a jaunty angle, I have this there at the moment to protect the pushrod tubes but am looking for a better solution, if anyone knows of one I would like to know, failing that I will have to get one beaten to shape. I put a standard exhaust on and replaced with a decent but not original heat exchanger which is working fine. The american exhaust system was a bit DIY before I had it stripped out and the whole thing is a lot less complicated now.

  6. Your going to need a fair few bits - the riser pipes are different, US ones are oval etc

I have most (ish) of the bits if you want pm me - I kept most of my US system and removed the other bit that wasn't so bad....

  7. Thanks everyone.

Grazzer - think for this and some others things I'm needing to get in contact with you. Am away at the moment and so will drop you a PM once I'm home and have had chance to get a firmer grasp on exactly what I'm after - thanks again for your feedback and offer of assistance - it's much appreciated :)
