changing engine size details on the log book

  1. Hi all,

It's just dawned on me that I have not told the DVLA that I changed my engine from 1600cc to 1776cc (I have told my insurance company).

Just wondered if anyone had done this recently and whether the DVLA had any issues or concerns over this, or just changed the engine size on the logbook.

I assume they will want to know the new engine number - I have looked on the block just underneath the alternator stand and there is no engine number there - could it be somewhere else on my 1776?

    thanks

  2. when I tried to change the logbook for my caddy after swapping the 1500 petrol.engine for a 1900 tdi the dvla were so unhelpful and wanted me to jump through so many hoops that in the end I told them not to bother since it didn't affect the road tax band anyway

  3. I really wouldn't bother. They don't care. As soon as you change it, your new engine will blow up anyway.

  4. I just sent them a letter with the engine code and horsepower quoted from Internet site confirming what a Type 4AP engine spec is. They sent me a new logbook and I had no issues at all. Didn't even have to ring them. Must have been lucky I guess.

I changed mine for the scooby engine.
Short explaining letter and the new V5 turned up in less than a week.

  6. But will they ask for an engine number if I tell them as its not by the alternator stand where the oem engine number is? Unless it could be somewhere else?
    Thanks

  7. Me too. The engine change wasn't a problem, however they were far too busy cocking up over my historic vehicle application.

  8. Did mine recently, engine change not just cc and i had to get a letter from a garage confirming the new engine details

  9. Had to do mine. I filled in the V5, then added a covering letter. Sent it recorded too. Saying that I did change engine size and conversion to manual too. Covering letter I suppose just makes them aware of what you're trying to do I guess.

I told them the engine number but I'm pretty sure they would have just updated the capacity if that's all the information I'd sent them.

I was told by the DVLA when they sent the V5 back with changes rejected that it had to be notified on headed notepaper from a garage. Then the tag fell off the engine so it did not have a number. So I gave up.
Then I replaced the engine any way.

    snotty likes this.
  12. Just mark engine number "not present" if it doesnt have one, worked for me some years ago on a bike engine swap...
