Morning all, Today's campsite challenge is to find and fit a replacement brake light switch. So assuming we can get our hands on one, what's the process for fitting them? Bentley just says screw in a new one but I don't think that's the whole story! Is it something like; - unscrew old one - put finger over hole to stem flow of brake fluid - quickly whap the new in and tighten - top up brake reservoir - return to poolside as hero? Thanks....
That`s how i`ve done it - easy Old one out and new one in as fast as you can - without cross-threading obviously ...
Thanks Lasty, that's very helpful. Feeling a bit nervous about attempting this at the campsite - huge propensity to end up with fluid all over me and the grass and none in the reservoir. Discretion rather than valour means we might check out this VW shack first before getting the tools out; Will let you know how it turns out!
Before you remove the switch unscrew the reservoir cap, cover with a piece of plastic bag or cling film and replace the cap. I doubt if you’ll lose more than a few drops of fluid when you remove the switch - don’t forget to take out the plastic under the cap when you’re done.
Genius - top advice. Turns out the two pin switch is common to Golfs and other VWS so it's been easy to order one for collection in the morning. One man band local garage will stick it on for us too which saves us grovelling in the dirt and only take a few minutes with his lift.
