hi guys Can you buy a repro heater jacket to cover the long central pipe that runs the length of the vehicle on the underside? There was someone selling something on eBay a while ago but it looked like something from the space shuttle I know it would do the job but it was very silver and shiney and around £130 Any ideas? Cheers Eli
There wasn't anything on the original pipe, apart from the foil inside the cardboard tube. I wrapped mine in the silver plastic bubble wrap insulation, held on with cable ties. A lot cheaper than £130!
Thanks snotty where did you get it. Sounds promising. How hot does that pipe get I don't want to use anythg that will start a fire ... Eli
It won't catch fire . If it's the original stuff, VW specced it for nice, hot heat exchangers, so it won't burst into flames! Keep your original tube, it's good stuff: cardboard with foil lining and a plastic waterproof coating. The insulation you can get at any DIY store - shop around for the cheapest!
It's silvered insulation with bubbles in it. Screwfix have loads. Not for lagging pipes, but it'll do the trick.
Iv just been doing my heating system the last few weeks and went spoke to my Plummer pal and raided his work van , I wrapped main centre steel pipe with hair felt and y piece and then covered the lot in aliminuim tape as it stick like s##t to a baby's blanket , I was looking for other heating but not now was boiling today in there !!
