catastrophic failure - or simple fix??

  1. So.....I'd borrowed the Mondeo for a long trip to visit relatives for a few days, leaving the T2 in the capable hands of the missus for local trips.
Emergency phone call to say the camper had broken down in a terminal way and had to be abandoned by the roadside a few miles from home.
Spent many hours worrying about the possible cause. Drove back to investigate the problem. Transpired the HT lead had come adrift from the coil causing the breakdown.

The most worrying problem turned out to have the simplest of fixes, taking just a few seconds to diagnose and repair.

Makes me think of the joys of our beloved T2s...... so simple.

  2. No need for a laptop or a forced regen on a particulate filter:thumbsup:

Shame the quality of the available parts is so poor :(

  3. They dont "fall off" unless they werent fitted properly in the first place. Is this a cunning plan to dissuade the Mrs from driving the bus?

And the sub 20mpg, 100k mile engine rebuilds and emissions.....

  5. Strangely, this dis-connection was one I did for security a few months ago. Hope I didn't weaken the integrity of the connection...

  6. Can you expand a bit please moons
I know its pointed at the problems of older vehicles

  7. I kind of knew you wer going to say that (or something similar)

Just that the internal combustion engine is laughably inefficient...new cars are complex simply because it takes more to control the inherit weakness of turning fossil fuel in to energy.

The benefit of 'simplicity' of these vans is poor efficiency and environmental impact.

How many need carbs adjusting every so often, engine rebuilds every 100k?

Most modern cars need servicing and that's about it to 200k miles plus.

  9. But whatsapp worse - poor quality replacement parts for vehicles that are still going 40 years after they we're built or poor quality new vehicles that are built to only last 10 years in our throw away / disposable society?

I'd rather have an iffy part than a newer motor.
