Cargo area chassis rail replacement

  1. I've had a quick search and couldn't find anything on here so....you may have seen my resto thread in the other forum and upon closer inspection the chassis rails under the cargo floor have had some repairs done on them in the past and in fitting with the rest of the bus they aren't great! I can easily make up new sections as they aren't a difficult shape but my question relates to bracing the bus whilst I cut them out. My thoughts are if I place bottle jacks under each end they won't drop and at the rear end it's well braced left to right anyway with the rear axle and the front with the forward beam and where it's tied into the rest of the bus. In the past on other cars I have welded a piece of box between the pillars when replacing sills but this won't work in this case as the outriggers will be off so there will be no strength there.

Has anyone done this as I'm a big fan of the old saying "fools rush in where angels fear to tread" and I don't want to miss the obvious and the bus fold in half!
