We've all done it, blocked off that unused vacuum stub on a carb with a bit of 3mm hose and a screw stuck in the end, does the job but it's just - ugly! You buy a new carb and the vacuum stubs have nice, neat rubber caps over them. The nearest I can find is £4.99 for one cap on eBay, listed for a specific motorbike application but no mention of actual size. So can anyone recommend a source for the proper plugs at a sensible cost or maybe know of something that can be re-purposed and provide a neater solution than the screw in a bit of hose solution?
In theory yes, but those only go down to 4mm and the stock VW vac system (on my carb) is 3mm. Maybe gives me another angle to search from though.
My carb has tiny cap heads up the bore of the unused breather pipes, just screw them out if required, it was like this when i bought the van.
Maybe fit all the systems that need the hoses. Those screws are accusing you of having a junk chrome air filter and an 009 distributor... I have in the past used cap head screws that were small enough to poke inside the pipe pointing at the outlets with their heads flush with the end of the pipe stub. They still cant be sucked into the engine as the heads are bigger than the holes in the carb.. And use smooth pipe not the fabric braided stuff.
No 009 here . The redundant vacuum take off would've been utilized in certain markets for emission control equipment which I've no desire to fit. I think I may have found what I was looking for but will reserve judgement and posting here until the postman drops them through the letterbox.
I quite like a piece of tube with a bolt in the end , a good honest fix - looks like it was put there in the days before ebay and stupid little plastic plugs all the way from China
Here in Australia we have a chain of stores called supercheap auto, they have a range of different sizes in blister packs, guess that doesn't help you much, maybe you have similar stores in the UK Rob
An improvement? Bicycle mudguard stay end cap, bit of a tight fit but went on easy enough after a quick soak in boiling water. Will have to watch for splits over time.
You've really stretched that. Is it petrol proof? Tidy...but I'd stick with fuel hose, reason being that it's tried, tested and fuel proof. It's available without the scruffy cotton overbraid.
