Got these carbs But can only find a gasket for a 34pdsit carb. I would presume it is the same size, but I am no expert. For a type4 engine
Maybe I will do that then. What's the purpose of a gasket? Just so the two surfaces don't fuse or so the gasket crushes in high and low places?
Cardboard is pretty good - it soaks up some petrol and oil and then becomes slightly springy . With a reasonably thick gasket it means that you do not have to torque the carb down so hard to seal it that it distorts the metal. Halfords also sell DIY cut out gasket material.

Metal gaskets are the best when the surfaces are true and straight and the correct torque is applied As parts wear and need more maintinence as they age then fiber gaskets are better Metal gaskets are normally used in pressurised systems or negative pressure systems with tight tolerances They rely on flat surfaces and proper torquing procedudures Cork sheet seems to work well on the inlet side
