Carb pipe?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by bertie78, Sep 29, 2013.

  1. Hi all,
    Will this do ?
The small angled pipe has been missing since we had the van.... Just put this piece of hose on will it be ok or do I need to source the proper part?
It's a solex twin carb 2 ltr . It's been running for the last 17 months without any pipe so am I better off leaving it off until I get the right pipe.
    Cheers

  2. If it's just a breather pipe, it should be fine.

  3. Cheers snotty ,
Think so, comes off the top of the left hand carb ( looking from back of van) and goes into side flat piece of air filter unit.

  5. I've no idea what it is coming off the top of the carb, but @zed will know.

  6. Nice one Ricky

  7. its the air feed to the central idling system if im not mistaken. Did fitting it make your van idle more slowly?

  8. Not turned it over properly yet .. as I quickly did then stood at back of van watching it tick over and noticed a dancing bolt !!! See other post... So quickly shut engine off

  9. Is the pipe actually meant to go to the air filter?

It's a metal pipe on mine with rubber elbows on the ends.

The real thing is less likely to ping off when it gets warm in the engine bay.

  15. Can I get the real thing easily enough Z?
    Any ideas where from

What's the proper name for it?

"The central idling air intake pipe from carb to air filter - you know, the one with 90 deg rubber elbows on each end, about 4 inches long and bent in the middle".
That should get you what you want. If it has a special name, my guess is most people wouldn't recognise it from that name anyway. You may never have seen one? It's a steel pipe.

  20. ive got one kicking about under my driver seat if you want it?
