Can the contents of a Solex pict3 carb full of fuel anyway leak or find it's way down and into the engine oil. That's with the fuel supply shut off and no visible exterior fuel leaks?.

Yes, there is an overflow (or vent ) into the manifold from the float chamber, and if your gasket is any good, it will go down the hole. Even the main jet and feed to the venturi will do eventually to empty petrol into your engine.
Only if there is pressure in the fuel line from the outside.

Hmm, interesting, i still seem to have a mysterious increase in oil level even with a closed manual fuel tap, just before the new pierburg fuel pump, it's as if every time the engine is run and stopped, it dumps the contents of the carb into the sump, i did remove the top of the carb and it was empty but it had been stood for about 10 days. How long does it take for the fuel to evaporate from a carb ?.
