I need to hire a car from Malaga airport at the end of May.

I've had few cars over the years from around Malaga and they've all been away from the airport and been a nightmare , the best I've had is from Sixt in the airport itself which was straight forward but with a relatively high price.

Does anyone have any recommendations ?

  2. We've just spent half the night shouting at eachother/ looking at car hire prices for Alicante. Same issues.

    Try rentalcars.com
Their website seems to be fairly straight forward to navigate and gives you all the hire companies and car options with prices. I would just make sure you add full insurance cover and also that they include the add ons in the quote and it's not something you will have to pay for at the desk.

  3. Don`t go to Malaga - or Spain for that matter - and expect a decent service .
Ms. Lasty goes to Malaga with sis and ma annually , they ALWAYS have problems with the hire car , best one being last year when they got 40 minutes down the road and the heavens burst . Needless to say the wipers were missing and to cut a long story short the hire company (Sixt !) didn`t want to know , accusing THEM of stealing the wipers - Spanish tossers for you ....

That's what i did ...i know what you mean on the expense ...but having said that there is a lot to said about being able to just drive back to the airport and job done .
Otherwise you have to drop off the car if hired elsewhere , and then get a taxi to the airport bit faffy if you no what i mean ...unless of coarse it's so much cheaper to hire ,

Now then you eengleesh pigs! In defence of my previous fellow countrymen spaniards I have to say that although we still have a car in Spain we had lots friends visit and hire cars and never had any probs. tho that's not saying it doesn't happen. I think the wheel cover is a con and don't take it. Cos I'm also a nerd I take photos of any scratches and go back to the desk to show them before I drive away, if necessary taking the clerk to the car :)

I get emails from companies I've used so will try and find any I've not deleted. :)

  14. Sixt cars are good but pricey.
Malaga cars offer 3 packages, I normally go for the cheap option unless it's peak times , or your being queuing for a long time ..
Make sure you check the car over and take photos

My friend uses whoever is cheapest at the time from the airport, up to you whether you take out the extra insurance but that's what bumps the price up. He's just paid €28 for 2weeks hire on a Fiat500L !!

Still to book a car... Is Malaga cars based near the terminal - walking distance ?

  17. Always take them out to the car with you before you drive away. Always.

  18. I too have been looking at car hire from Malaga airport as I have done on a few years previous. Totally get the on airport bit a I did once miss a flight back from Malaga when I couldn't find the place again to drop it off....Mrs B was not happy..
Anyway Re the ridiculous insurance they almost insist you take as an extra - take a look at this from Martins money tips as it has loads of advise and voucher codes that actually work to get discount on a stand alone all excess policy so you dont need theirs. The cost for me last year for 1 week in Malaga was only £18 when done this way.
The links for the whole article and worth a read , hope it helps

  19. Oh and for you Dads & Mums - Malaga airport also has a hire shop where the cost of car seats (all in good new condition too) are half the price of most car hire companies who again are trying to rip us off.....

After collecting your luggage walk through into exit lobby a man will be waiting with a clip board. He will guide you to a mini bus that will take you to collect your car from the office which is about 500m from the Terminal.
I've used them regularly for the last 15 years and never had a problem when returning the car. Always check over the car and take photos of any dents / scratches etc
