Car cigarette lighter socket

  1. Nothing to do with campers. Has anyone used one of those splitter things which let you run two things from the cigarette lighter socket. In my case it would be sat nav and phone charger. I'm just worried about overloading the wiring. I've no idea what sort of current they use.

  2. I've got one with two lighter sockets and a USB socket, which charged the phone & satnav happily all weekend. Need to wire up one in the back for the kids now (to charge the ipad, not the kids).

I run one which allows a double cigarette lighter socket & a double USB. Never had any problems

  4. I have a triple one that runs all chargers, as long as you don't connect an actual cigarette lighter (it'll catch fire) or a heater fan (same effect) then you'll be fine.
The draw on most phone/sat nav chargers is around 750-1250 ma.
Your chargers should be rated, just add them up. :)

  6. Wire it up with an 8 amp fuse (or tap it off an 8 amp-er in the fuse box). That'll stop the wiring going up in flames.

  7. It's in my car already fitted, so I won't be touching/altering any wiring.

In had/have one from halfords which is round and sit in the cup holder. It has lights to show battery condition but I find them a bit bright for night driving.

It has two fag/power points and a pull out mini USB point.

Its has work well until we broke the USB connection

  9. I have one with 2 cigarette sockets. But it has limited power; blown the fuse within a minute when hooked op my 5,5A fridge-box.
Still need to replace the fuse :p

In my campervan however I have made 2 seperate sockets in my circuitry panel and have one in my dashboard.
One of those in the circuitrypanel is in use with the mentioned fridge while driving. Works like a dream.
For testing purposes I had it running for 15 hours over night last sunday.

Had some nice cold beer afterwards.

I have a din socket and din adaptor to cigarette lighter, I run everything off it. I get through more chargers than anything for some reason ( £1 shop cheap bits probably). gotta fit a usb and seperate ciggy lighter off the lb at some point!

  11. As I know it, all cigarette lighter outlets are fused, so if you did over load it, you'd plow the fuse not catch on fire etc.

I also have fitted 4(one has a twin USB adaptor fitted) in the back of the van for anything and everything we carry that needs power.

  13. I have an adapter that fits the cig socket and just has two USB outlets: one for the TOM tom and the other for the iPhone. Sorted:thumbsup:

  18. i had a three way cigarette socket and usb which I cut the wire on and wired directly into my leisure battery fuse board via an isolator switch on the dash. I say had, I blew it up on Saturday when I tried a travel kettle on it. Have a new socket on its ways to replace it. Up until then o issues with it
