  1. Hi there is it normal to have little metal caps on the end of the valves where the tappet hits never seen them before didn't have them on both my other type 4 engines also do you need them

  3. I haven't got a pic but they sit over the end of the valves and the engine is a cb code if that helps

  4. Just looked it up and they are to protect the valve they are steel caps that sit on the end of the valve never seen them before has any one got them on there 1700 engines

  5. They're lash caps. I believe VW actually used them as a quick way of dealing with valve stems that had been beaten up a bit, without taking the heads off and changing the valves. You can still buy them today, although the quality may be iffy.

  6. Thanks for that do I need them on there or could I take them of do you no

  7. Leave 'em on, take 'em off...up to you. If they're in good shape, I'd leave them on. They just push on to the valve stems, BTW - nothing holds them on apart from the small gap between the rocker screw and the valve. They won't go anywhere ;)

  8. Thanks for info they all seem ok

Why do you want to take them off? They were put there for a reason, I would leave them on
