We are in Spain at the moment and want to bring back about 60 bottles of wine for our daughter's wedding in August. Will that cause a problem for our suspension? Or can our vans cope with this sort of extra load? Those that know - what is the best place to get loads of wine in Spain - we have looked in Mercadona which looks as good as any? Just posted another chapter on the trip on www.SickBayDays.com for anyone interested.
Not sure about the loads but be careful at the boarder. There might be a limit in the number of bottles one can bring back before being considered as suspect of trying to resale.
We've bought boxes of wine back before, tho not in a bay. I scoff at 60 Some friends came over once and filled the whole floor of their hiace with boxes of wine. They had to put their mattress on top of them all to sleep on the way back to the uk
an average bottle of wine weighs about 1.25kg so that's 75kg in total. if it was me I'd be doing 60 white and 60 red just to be on the safe side................ I wouldn't have thought it would bother it at all.
boxes are the way forwards ,I would never bring bottles back ,just because of the jingly jingle sound all the way home...
It looks like the payload is 900 kg + for a T2 depending on original fitout up to 1000kg for a panel van. Add up your camping interior, passengers etc and you should still have room for a couple of hundred kilos of stuff. Wine is approx 1.25 kg a bottle so you are only looking at 75kg plus boxes or about one person. You could probably cover the rear floor area in boxes of wine without trouble. I wish I had when I discovered our family had a taste for Montbazillac white wine and we only bought back 6 bottles at €9.00 each at the chateau , then discovered they go for £20+ in Waitrose.
As long as one can persuade the nice man/lady at uk boarder it's for wn consumption one can bring back as much as one likes.
I think the max is 100 bottles, I bought back 90 in the back of a new Ford Focus with no problems so I think you will be fine
Scoff!! I fart at your aunties and blow my nose in your general direction. Coming back from spain with the floor stocked up to bed hight, seat in bed position and another layer on top. Most difficult thing was storing it when we got home. Oh yeh, brake earlier and g e n t l y!
Yeah, been there too & so stupidly loaded we had to sleep in the roof bed Sheared 3...yes 3 woodruff keys off the alternator pulley driving through northern France. (we used to carry a lot of spares) So, I suppose it is technically possible to overload one....
