And guide me through fitting it please :)

I can"t believe only a £70 propex one will do the job its only a on off switch with a thermal control.ge

ok so no one replied to this so i presumed no one knew and set about doing it my way , it may be wrong but eh ohh it works .

i thought about how i got my propex 1600 working in the first place .

Basically i bought a on off switch with live feed and negative connections , i then wired in the live feed to the live terminal on the switch , negative to the neg terminal and i joined the red and orange wires from the propex together and wired them to the feed terminal on the switch , result - i switched it on and it worked .

i wondered about the purple so i asked , its a cool off wire , in other words when the propex switches off that wire supplys a feed to keep the fan running which helps the propex cooling procedure , no worry's i didn't need that , work that bit out later .

Right - if a thermostatic control on off switch ( which is simply what a thermostatic control switch is) can be wired in then all it will do is the same as my other switch ( switch on and off ) only it will turn off when it gets to temperature -- this is what i did .

I went to B n Q and bought the cheapest household thermostatic controller ( non electronic ) this one £12.99 -

i also had this one at home that i had got from a car boot for 50p and had forgot about .

i wired it the same way as i wired the switch , live to terminal 1 ( live ) red and orange to terminal 3 ( feed ) and negative to terminal 4 ( negative ) .

    The propex wires -

    Black =neg ,purple = cool off , orange = feed , red =feed ( i joined these together . brown = live feed .

I taped the purple one up out of the way for now until i can find out how to use it , maybe it has to be a proper propex thermostatic controller with 6 connections - i know not but when i turned the thermostat up the propex worked and when i turned it down it went off -

i have to extend and fix properly the wiring so has i can fix the controller where i want it but now i know it works i am happy to do this later .

    Result imo .

No i don't have that but i do have a similar one for the 1600 , it all helps thank you

  6. I expect terminal 2 is a normally closed contact (when the stat is not calling for heat). It will do the opposite action to terminal 3.
If 3 is closed, 2 will be open and vice versa. Hope that makes sense. :headscratch2:

Number 2 is not used this is used on the next model up then its use to switch a diverter valve.

The purple cool off is important as it stops the unit overheating and purges the gas exhaust if you don't use it it may operate the overheat cutout if it does remove the cover and you will see a black disc with a pin sticking out Press the pin to reset.

You could run the purple to a switch and manual operate.

The other issue with the set up you have you will not be able to read the fault codes as this is the lights on the propex controller.

To be honest the price for the propex is not to bad when you consider all it does in a neat box.

You will find that the thermostat cuts in and out rapidly

thermostats have a buffer in that if set to 20deg the cut in will be 19deg and cut out will be 21deg outer wise it will be on and off all the time

The HRT2 uses the neutral to do this but needs 220 to 250v as you are on 12v this wont work the thermostat will still switch on and off but will not have the damping.

you can get 2 wire thermostat that use a bellows to give the damping like this one

The HRT 2 does not have anything connected on terminal 2 but use the same block as other models when it is used

so , is that screwfix one to replace the Hortsman oone or just to run the cool off side ?.

    Replacement for the hortsman
Not sure of how to do the cool off it depends where the timer is for it if its in the main unit you could fit a relay and use the normal closed contacts so it energizes the purple when the orange is switched off

Cheers Matt , i have just read a article on a google search that says the purging process is something they built into this model the earlier version never had it and its not absolutely needed , can't say if its right or wrong myself as i know very little about how it works .

    Just checked the manual
    red is + 12v
    black is - 0v
    orange is heat on
    Purple Fan

Try a 2 wire stat and connect red to one side and orange on the other

If you put a switch inline with the red you can switch it on/off so stopping it coming on when your not in the van.

Then i would try it if after a period of running you find it doesn't restart check the over heat switch i mentioned if it does it regular you can then fit a relay with a built in timer as used for interior lights in cars .

Not sure how it works without trying it
With 12v on the red and orange does the fan run and heat comes out

If the fan doesn't then the purple must need 12v as well in that case you will need the purple and orange cornected together.

To get it to run on you will need to run the orange and purple through a 30sec 12v timer relay that carrys on giving the purple 12v on when the orange goes off
