So I changed the battery - followed Haynes - I used an online battery selector and had it double checked by a mate so should all be good compatibility wise. Van worked this morning fine (old battery needed a jump) Changed battery over. now - lights on dash, radio works, but the starter motor won’t kick in. I’ve got a cobra 4100 series alarm/immobiliser so I wonder if it is this. The alarm is responding to my keyring and if I break into the van the alarm goes off, click the remote and it switches off fine. Fuses all appear present and correct. What have I done?
Immobiliser may have been affected or kicks in if power is lost, have you checked if it has a way of resetting? Or to test bypass? Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk
Grease your battery terminals.... might not have a good enough contact for the current draw for the starter
This is my thinking I called the installation company and they said there’s not a reset I’d need to bring it in… they didn’t seem to understand that this wasn’t possible because it wouldn’t start lol as for bypass I can’t find anything about doing it myself sadly
A lot of alarms have a power interruption lockout function. I would have a scan through your manual. The alarm will think someone has cut a wire.
Update: SHE’S ALIVE!!! Not sure if it was tapping the starter, a jumper pack or just leaving it long enough so the immobiliser reset but she started. I took her for a spin to charge up the battery just in case, and she ran fine. Will test her again tomorrow. Thanks all!
Thanks I think that this is what it was, the manual says nothing about it but the manual for the alarm is basic!
Update - starting like a dream this morning, as a new battery should. Tested if the alternator is working before and after a drive and it is - so, by process of elimination - must have been an interruption timer on the immobiliser
