Camper RCD/Consumer Unit

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by snotty, Jan 27, 2015.

  1. Any recommendations, @matty perhaps? Need a DP RCD, with just a couple of 16A breakers (or maybe only one, at a pinch). Ta.

  5. Ha! Well observed! Doesn't stop me using it as a mobile reading room parked in the driveway, to escape domestic bliss. Like a conservatory on wheels...

Anyway, the current dangling mains wiring gets my OCD going.

yes they should its in the regs

    reg 721.43.1
each final circuit shall be protected by an overcurrent device which disconnects all live conductors of that circuit

also in the regs under part 2 Definitions

    live conductor
a conductor intended to be energized in normal use, including a neutral conductor

    Hope that clears it up

Some more info in a how to

  9. That's what I was thinking Matty..... and its especially relevant if you happen to be hooked up to a site where the polarity may be incorrect and unchecked..
That said I have only got a single pole in mine and Im a qualified electrician of 25 years !! Bad man....! Its one of those jobs I never get around to however on the odd occasion I use the hook up and not my batteries I ALWAYS use a little martindale to check polarity at the site supply point.
Best get down CEF for a double pole !!

  10. Right, problem solved. I'd forgotten I'd got vast (new) Wylex split load consumer unit in the garage. I'll rob the RCD and MCBs from that and stick them in a 4-way Wylex box. They'll do for the time being.

The C-Pak box looks fine, but I suspect the "C" stands for "Chinese"...

  11. fitted a double pole 16 amp rcbo in an enclosure. Nice and small and doesn't take room up!

    Most rcbos are single pole[IMG]

To be honest mine is also single pole like @Finnleysdad but i always fit double pole to any i do
I manly use mine to charge the battery before and after i go away as i try and avoid using hookup

  14. Matty, thats just got single pole MCBs too. Has a double pole RCD though.

  16. hopefully your rcbo is quicker disconnection time than theirs or single/double irrelevant.
