Calling you wildlife experts

  1. What is this?

I have been told it is a male smooth newt but as I have never seen any newt in the wild before, let alone in my back garden so I thought I would call upon the wildlife experts on here.
It was about 3" from nose to tail and must have come from my neighbours pond which is about 60ft from my back door.

By using NEWTownian logic I would surmise that it is some form of amphibious life form :p

Yup, thats a Smooth or Common Newt Triturus vulgaris. One of two newt species in the UK, the other being the much larger Great Crested Newt.
