cab window winders

  1. my window winders are catching and scuffing the ridiculously expensive vinyl door cards. now i know it's not really 'open window weather' but i hope it will be soon and would like to be able to wind the windows down without trashing my doorcards.

are there winders available which stick out a bit further? or it there anything i can do with mine?

i hink mine are stock but will nip out and get a pic just in case. :)

  2. I have the cheapo aftermarket alloy ones with 3 drilled holes. They stand off proud more so than the standard ones however they dont last long. Other option is go for the later heavy duty boggo ones which I think T25's also use, they are no lookers but work a treat and last longer than alloy ones.

  3. Ps ensure that your grab handles are screwed on tight to the body, ensures the panel is pulled onto the door frame.

  4. will check the grab handles, cheers.
so it looks like it'll mean different handles then?

  5. Are you missing a plastic bezel that goes under the winder handle?

  6. no idea. upholsterer put the back on but i'm finding that they're trashing the vinyl piping. will check though :)

  7. The originals have a plastic bezel underneath to stop wear on the vinyl no issues if you cant get them make your own from a pringles li or similar, no one will see it.
Upholsterers eh? Fek they obviously care about their workmanship then?!!!!

Change the handles, cheap as chips and you have the worst sort for thick door cards. :)

  9. he did say he'd sort it but seems a trek to loughborough just to do it if it's an easy sort.

  10. to what kind?

Ones that stick out further? o_O

  12. The aftermarket window winder mechanisms have winder spindles that are long that the VW ones , so the aftermarket handles have a chance to grip.
I had the same issue as you when I made the boards I used ply which is thicker than the old
Hardboard but I wanted it to last. The alloy handles did the trip, misses the vinyl nicely, but they are made from cheese!
Good luck its a simple replacement with other handles either way, good luck

If you do a search on the world wide web, I imagine you would find pictures of winders for sale?
Then you can choose some to suit you doorcards, budget and sense of style.

Do you have the internet? If not, could you get a friend to help you?

I warn you aftermarket cheese based Taiwanese , yet I still have a set on my Beetle for 26 years and works fine, seems the newer ones are not as good as they were?!

Anyway loads of others available- down to how much you want to spend?
