Cab door A-pillar attachment

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by leflipflop, Jun 7, 2021.

  1. Its ace isnt it when previous owners have a stab at doing things themselves...

Next on my list of previous shizzle - the attachment brackets on the A pillar for cab doors no longer have the floating anchor nuts in them and have just been squeezed together..

Ive made a backing nut plate with both positions on it which does work.. But makes the door a tw** to remove/install..

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

    Cheers all.

Unless you are still using the pointed screws, not modern replacements, the stock floating plate is even more tricky to install, as it slides down so you cannot get a standard bolt into the hole - the points let you push the screw in and the plate moves into place.

If its been squeezed together, find a 1/4" or 3/8" wide wood chisel, blunt it off a bit and use it to open up the pressed together bits, drive it down between the metal. If it falls apart, now you just have to make the frame out of a sheet of metal that you had to anyway.

Alternatively, drill a hole and tap a thread for a smaller ? M6 bolt between the two longer holes in the squashed bit. Then drill a hole in your plate with the captive nuts in the middle which you elongate into a slot. Now screw a short M6 bolt with a spring under the head in from the front. Loctite it into your hole so its flush to the rear where the hinge plate will sit. This will hold your moveable plate in place with the spring, let you move it up and down.

While you do the one hand holding door other hand holding ratchet driver trick without ramming the door into the pillar and scratching it...
