So, if I tow the poptop kitchen with my camper do I need to have business insurance on the camper? Thoughts anyone?
Yeah I know, not trying to get out of paying it if I need it just don't want to pay for something if I don't need it.
I know I can do that rick but I thought I would ask for some opinions on here before putting my head above the parapit. Pretty sure an insurance company will just say I need it and charge me more money etc etc. Both my others cars have business insurance but it is a bit different with the camper as it is currently on a classic policy and they won't cover for business (if I need it)
ok, in honesty i was teasing, i would say that because you don't need it for towing a normal caravan you'd be fine, however you'll probably have to get public liability for trading so i would do that
Oh yeah public liability up to 5 million (or something like that) already sorted. The caravan is the business so if I am towing it to an event with the camper am I "on business" then?
Now this is an interesting one Is it when you leave the house towing your kitchen or when you start flipping burgers For my business, when I leave my house/office, that is when work starts not when I arrive at the property I am going to inspect. More popcorn required.
I would say if you are towing the kitchen to a venue or for any purpose in line with the kitchen business you need business insurance. If in doubt speak to the insurer, because if you have an accident you will regret not doing so.
^^^this I would say. As soon as you hitch up to go to an event you're "on business" in my opinion.* *I'm no expert mind you!
You do need it for both the van and the caravan, be aware that there's no agreed valuations on commercial insurance
It won't be commercial insuranc it will be normal insurance with business use added, unless you mean that
When I was looking to do weddings etc they told me it classes as business which IS commercial, basically anything non domestic is business , it will be market value but I don't see that it should make any difference to the payout
There is a difference between the business having insurance to operate - i.e. when you are using it to cook, and transporting it to venues on which to do it. The using it to cook part would need it's own employee and public liability insurance anyway. I would assume the vehicle is being used to tow the trailer to a place which you can then conduct business, so it would need insurance to cover it's business use, same as if you used an ordinary car - (as opposed to traveling to and from a place of work), not using it to transport passengers as part of the business should make this easier. I am unsure if you can use the same policy to cover the transport and then conduct of the business - we had separate policies for the business and the vans themselves when I owned an automotive company, but then we needed insurance to move customers vehicles.
You have all said pretty much what I thought and will be getting business insurance. Just wanted confirmation really
looks like every-ones doing it now ,back of any old tranny... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Os-mobile-coffeevan/658077327641194
