  1. Right I already have a garage..
too small for a type 2 am looking into building a new one.
Any ideas on height to fit a westy comfortably and maybe when jacked up?

Construction/ planning etc no probs I do that for a job.

    Ta!

They're all slightly different due to wear so you'd be better off measuring your bus.
If you're building new then you may as well go over the top anyway.

  4. A large double size is always good for helping mates out too.

  5. Base it on a standard Viking T2 then anything will fit. ;)

I've got plans for the same. First job - measure the van. I am stuck for space width-wise so just going maximum width that will fit in the space. Going for a ridged roof with spaced trusses so that the pop-top will go up inside the garage. Looking at a shutter front door so that we get full height of the opening for access.

    Can't wait :)

  7. Gotta be a remote control roller door dude, just pull up,push the button and drive straight in. Used to love it on my last place when getting home on the bike, saved rummaging through my sweaty leathers for keys.

Yep, electric shutter doors for the win.
    Great if its raining!

  9. So how tall is a Viking I went out with a Danish bird once but she was only 5'4

Looking at 5 1/2 m long 3 1/2 m wide by x tall may need planning if over 4 m I think have to read up on it.

Make it longer if you can as it will give you a workshop space with the van in.

  11. make it deep in one end, deep enough to stand up under your bay

  12. As all fellas will know(think) ,big is never big enough, I was soooo pleased to get a lock up from the council ,then I jacked bus up, and crushed roof of bus into up and over tin door, biggest planning regs allow dude, and factor in your mains leckie supply channel/run.

  13. How big can a garage be before it stops being a garage?

I ask as I had my double concrete sectional extended by 8ft a few years back and the lad kept referring to it as a 'workshop'... bugger all work gets done in there I can tell ya! Sadly the van still won't go in as it isn't high enough. My original plan was to drop it onto steel rims and roll it in over Winter, 2 yrs I've planned on doing it and never bothered - so have just given the steels away!

Is there a limit to the size of sectional buildings? I have the room to extend it further and could raise the roof at same time...

    That's what I meant

  15. Do'nt forget a pit "essential"

  16. My old garage at my old flat had a pit... I got wet!
I have a sectional garage and know what you mean about height guess. I could buy more bits to make it longer and wider.
this is for home storage, my brother in law has a big barn for winter storage, just wanted something not 220 miles away.

  17. Leckie doors are Fabio, till they stop working.

Like anything else! The motors are cheap as chips to replace or you can just use the handles on the door.

  19. We're going through planning right now for a wooden garage 2+ half width, I want 2 vans in a single space where I can get comfortably between the 2 with doors open. We'll have a single shallow pit and enough clearance to raise the van for engine removal. End will have workshop space for engine building. One side facing the house will have a wood store. We're trying to get plans through for it over 2 floors as an attached extension.

Issue we have is that we have to build the front in Victorian brick to match the house as the frontages are classed as conservation zone.
    :)

  20. A few years ago I changed my metal up and over garage door to a double wood door with the frame on the outside.
My Viking was tickled with the lowering stick just a little and it fitted in nice n
