Just brought a recon engine and unfortunately it turns out there is a broken fuel pump flange still inside the block. Ive tried screwing into it and pulling but it isnt shifting so presumably that just leaves drilling it out or returning it. Is it ok to drill out. Would i just flush the bits through with oil before fitting the engine. Sadly ive built it all up?
I had one stuck once and break up on me and in the end had to push the bits down, i flushed it through with oil a few times and manged to get them out, it ran ok after but maybe i was just lucky
have you tried holding on to it with some circlip pliers and turning the engine by hand, with the plugs out?
I have the same problem on my beetle motor. I am going to try using a tap to cut a thread in the stub and then screwing a length of threaded rod in. Hopefully I can then screw a nut onto the top of the rod and give it a sharp whack upwards to free the bleedin' thing. Seems as if a lot of these pump pedestals are too tight for the hole they sit in, so if I can get it out then I am going to make sure the new one I have slips up and down easily.
for info, i have been advised i could cut the flange where there is a line marked on it and fit it and re-use the bit that stuck in as that finishes flush with the top of its metal holder (if that makes sense).
Think it might help loosening the crankcase bolts - seem to remember a similar post on VZI a while ago, this may be wrong but seems pretty logical . No doubt someone will tell you not to ....
