Just catching up with all this. What a pain. At least you’re home safe. Good luck for tomorrow’s diagnosis. Let us know how it goes.
So. Mate came round to help turn it over. no spark with plug against tinware or rear chassis. plug not sooted up so maybe it was electrical not diesel. @Dubs, I was carrying the compulsory spare dizzy in the back!! but didn’t want to change it there in the m40. so, here are the problems. 1. The spare is 009 and not a straight swap 2. I don’t know what I’m doing! So, no vac advance, only one lead on it. Any tips please??
One lead is probably points and condenser. Does it have points, can you see them? You need to gap the points. Do you have a feeler gauge?
Yes, I think so, my 009 seems to confuse my SVDA friend. @CollyP , do you have a timing mark on your pulley? Can you get the SVDA back in and point the rotor arm to #1 and get the timing mark, aka can you find TDC? While you're doing that gap the points on the dizzy you just took out.
Ok .... Set points before you put the dizzy in . Locate dizzy into place noting the lugs need to locate . Connect up electrics. Find firing stroke on cylinder 1 , turn over until both valves closed on cyl 1 . Insert plug lead for 1 into the dizzy cap where the rotor arm is pointing . Insert the rest in firing order - 1.4.3.2. Move dizzy by hand until the points JUST start open at the timing Mark before tdc ... It's difficult first time but once youve done it a few times it's second nature .. Ever thought about going to techenders ?? Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
If you can get TDC, you can try the 009 to see if it lines up the same as SVDA, if not, reaarrange plugs leads so #1 lead is where the rotor now points. Do other leads, order is 1,4,3,2. Dizzy can only engage one way. Adjust dizzy by hand until points open at TDC. Tighten clamp, it will run, even if it's a few degrees out soo... Try starting it
Pretty sure the green lead goes on coil's negative terminal. Someone will be along to confirm my failing memory.
Van is over the road from the house, getting dark. Today was about testing spark and plugs and taking photos. Recovery guy did the fuel hose off while I cranked it test.
I’ve got a sort of headache/mental block from reading some of these posts saying how to check everything with all those numbers in!
